Ghirlandi Guidetti

Senior Staff Attorney

Ghirlandi Guidetti, J.D. (he/el) is a Staff Attorney in Public Counsel’s Consumer Rights and Economic Justice (CREJ) project. An experienced impact litigator and policy advocate, he has worked on a wide range of issues to advance equity for marginalized communities.

After law school, Ghirlandi joined the ACLU of Illinois in 2015, where he focused on civil liberties, police misconduct, and institutional reform at the intersection of LGBTQ rights. He represented transgender students denied access to gender-affirming facilities, leveraged a consent decree to advocate for LGBTQ youth in the child welfare system, and helped lead a groundbreaking class action against the Illinois Department of Corrections on behalf of incarcerated individuals denied gender-affirming care.

In 2021, Ghirlandi returned home to Southern California and joined the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), where he tackled the housing crisis as part of the Housing and Communities workgroup. In April 2023, he returned to Public Counsel’s CREJ, where he had clerked during law school. He is currently focused on impact litigation and advancing racial and economic justice, including Ocana v. Renew (L.A. County PACE litigation) and Rodriguez v. City of Los Angeles (enforcing a settlement resulting from a challenge to unconstitutional gang injunctions), while also supporting the team’s direct services. On the policy front, he has drafted legislation – including, most recently, AB 2837, the Post-Judgement Fairness Act – and testified before the state legislatures in California and Illinois.

Ghirlandi earned his B.A. from the University of Southern California in 2007, and his J.D. and Master of Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago in 2015.
