Public Counsel Will Not Back Down

We remain committed to our mission and serving immigrant and LGBTQIA+ communities.

In just its first days, the new presidential administration has taken actions that threaten dignity, justice, and the values we fight to uphold. Sweeping executive orders have undermined fundamental rights for immigrants and LGBTQIA+ people, hindered progress on racial justice, and this week, the administration released a vaguely worded memo that attempted to freeze $3 trillion in federal funding for essential programs. These moves endanger access to asylum, strip away critical protections for transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals, and create confusion and chaos for millions of low-income people who rely on our nation’s safety net.

These attacks on civil rights, immigrant protections, and economic security are already being felt in our community and all across the country. We must stand together to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all.

Public Counsel will not back down. We have been here before, and we will not waver. Our legal teams will continue to stand up for immigrant communities and provide access to critical legal services. We will continue providing advice and legal counsel to gender-expansive individuals who encounter discrimination at work and in higher education, as well as advocate for inclusive protections under California and federal law to safeguard students’ rights. We are committed to defending vital programs that keep families stable and advancing economic justice in response to threats to federal funding.

Your help is crucial at this moment.

  • Join us by signing up to volunteer—whether you’re a lawyer or an advocate, your involvement can make a direct impact: Sign up here.
  • Your donations also enable us to continue providing essential services and defending the rights of those we serve: Contribute here.

Public Counsel will not be distracted from our mission or deterred from standing with the communities we serve. Though the challenges ahead are daunting, we know from experience that together, we can protect the values we all hold dear.

Thank you for your continued support.
