Public Counsel is honored to have received the 2026 Foundation Award at Tonality’s 2026 Gala. This award recognizes the pro bono legal assistance Public Counsel provided that helped make Tonality’s founding possible.
Providing pro bono legal services to nonprofits dedicated to advancing justice and opportunity has been at the core of Public Counsel’s mission since our inception. That is why this award was a full circle moment for us. In 2018, Public Counsel’s Community Development team engaged with Tonality, who had an important vision to utilize music and culture to connect people with important causes and build bridges.
In the years since, the organization has grown into a nationally recognized voice for social change through music, earning two Grammy Awards along the way.
The gala brought together artists, supporters, and community members for an intimate celebration of a shared belief: that music can name injustice, hold grief, and inspire change. Public Counsel was recognized alongside fellow honoree Michael Abels, the Pulitzer Prize–winning composer.
Public Counsel is proud to have played a role in Tonality’s journey and is deeply grateful to its artists, staff, supporters, and leadership for this meaningful recognition.
