Public Counsel’s Consumer Rights and Economic Justice project handles a large volume of debt collection issues, including consumer debt lawsuits, harassment by creditors, default judgments, and wrongful wage garnishment or bank levies. Sometimes our clients are wrongly sued and often only discover there is a judgment against them when the creditor starts taking money from their wages or bank accounts.

We offer support to self-represented litigants in dealing with debt-collection lawsuits. In certain cases, we provide pro bono assistance or limited scope representation to help clients set aside default, and/or negotiate to get their cases dismissed or settled.
