Annie Marquit (she/her) is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Community Development Project at Public Counsel. As part of her practice, Annie provides direct legal services and educational training to nonprofit organizations on a variety of legal matters, including formation, fiscal sponsorship, lobbying restrictions, revenue-generating activities, and governance. She has also authored numerous publications, including Anatomy of a Fundraiser: A Legal Guide for Charitable Fundraising In California.
Earlier in her career, while at Public Counsel, Annie worked on state and local policy in the areas of affordable housing and economic development. Before Public Counsel, she represented low-income seniors at risk of losing their homes due to foreclosure and real estate fraud, and she clerked for Justice Barry Albin on the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Annie loves helping her clients and learning about their amazing work to serve and strengthen their communities. She also values her Public Counsel colleagues and the shared commitment to serving low-income people and communities through direct legal services, policy engagement, impact litigation, social work, media, and more.
Annie has a B.A. from Columbia University and J.D. from Columbia Law School. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, baking, listening to podcasts, and playing the piano.
