Transition Age Youth

Transition Age Youth

Overview

The Transition Age Youth (TAY) team provides holistic legal services to young people ages 16-24, primarily Black and Latinx, who are impacted by the foster care and/or juvenile delinquency systems. Our work is geared toward addressing the collateral consequences of system-involvement and helping clients successfully transition to adulthood.  For our many clients who are expecting or parenting, we use a two-generation approach to build family well-being.

We provide legal services in the areas of housing advocacy, traffic ticket cases, family law services, public benefits advocacy, juvenile record sealing, and name and gender changes. Our direct representation guides our policy work at a local and statewide level to challenge and change systems that perpetuate intergenerational system-involvement.   TAY also conducts outreach and training to transition-age youth and community-based organizations on legal issues impacting these youth.
