Debt Collection Defense Clinic
Public Counsel holds clinics to help individuals dealing with debt collection. In-person appointments (masks required) are available on the First Monday of the month at the Vermont Square Library from 1-4pm, and on the First Friday of the month at the RL Stevenson Library from 1-4pm. Zoom appointments also are available at other times.
Our services include:
- Responding to a debt collection lawsuit
- Responding to discovery requests from a creditor
- Claims of exemption for wage garnishment and bank levy
- Counsel and advice
PLEASE NOTE: Our in-person clinics will have some availability for walk-ins, but we recommend you make an appointment.

Our intake services are currently closed. Public Counsel will be closed in observance of the Independence Day Holiday starting the week of July 1. Our office will reopen on Monday July 8. Please check back at that time to see if intake has reopened.
