Public Counsel’s 2021 William O. Douglas Award Dinner Celebrates Community and Honorees

John Legend delivers his acceptance speech after receiving the 2021 William O. Douglas Award.

After going virtual in 2020, Public Counsel’s William O. Douglas Award Dinner returned last night for an in-person celebration to recognize our clients’ resilience and resolve, uplift our staff and countless pro bono volunteers, and pay tribute to our outstanding honorees. We highlighted Public Counsel’s efforts to fight tirelessly to support our communities amid the pandemic and recommitted to our work to pursue justice, hope, and opportunity for all.

We recognized four distinguished honorees for their trailblazing commitments to inclusivity and representation and initiatives to bring about social justice. We presented the William O. Douglas Award to John Legend, honored Sidley Austin LLP with the Law Firm Pro Bono Award, recognized Betsy Beers with the inaugural Trailblazer in the Arts Award, and Netflix received the Corporate Achievement Award.

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful guests who joined us at the beautiful The Beverly Hilton, and a special shout out to our supporters and event sponsors. Thank you for standing with Public Counsel during these trying times, and we appreciate your help in making this event an inspiring night for all of us!
