Community Effort: 400K Signatures Submitted for Homelessness Prevention Ballot Initiative

Public Counsel attorneys Jonathan Jager and Greg Bonett—pictured in front of the truck carrying the 400,000 signatures—played a critical role in supporting and actualizing the vision of a homelessness prevention ballot initiative since its inception.

Public Counsel joined partner organizations this morning to submit 400,000 signatures to place the Affordable Housing, Homelessness Solutions, and Prevention Now Measure on LA County’s Noviembre ballot. This initiative aims to generate billions in funding for homelessness services and affordable housing, addressing the critical need for safe, affordable homes and improved access to mental health care in our community.

The measure was developed and proposed by a coalition of nonprofit organizations working to confront homelessness in the Los Angeles area, spearheaded by the Our Future LA Coalition and including groups like Public Counsel, the United Way of Greater L.A., non-profit affordable and supportive housing providers, foundations, and a broad coalition of labor unions. Our Community Development Project has played a vital role in the creation of this measure. The County is currently verifying that the proponents collected enough signatures to move forward. Once qualified, it is slated to appear on the Noviembre ballot.
